The Gatsby Inspired Wedding

September 13, 2013

Thanks to the release of the Great Gatsby, staring none other than the gorgeous Leonardo DiCaprio, a fabulous new trend in weddings has emerged. The Great Gatsby style, and that of the 1920’s, is sharp geometrical patterns, grand flourishes, and soft feminine touches more commonly know as Art Deco. If you are planning a Great Gatsby inspired wedding you are sure to impress your guests. This theme is all about going over-the-top with glamours and lavish details. Here are some tips to really bring your Great Gatsby ideas to life.

Location is incredibly important to pulling off a Great Gatsby wedding. In the movie, Jay Gatsby built a stunning mansion with sprawling gardens, grand stair cases and stunning chandlers to impress his guests and these are details that you will want to emulate for your event. Fortunately for those of us here in Arizona the perfect location is just around the corner. I can’t think of a better place then the Arizona Biltmore, just walking in the front door takes your breath away. It was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1920’s, and has all the characteristics of a classic Art Deco building with the impressive ballrooms, gardens, and grand staircases. Not to mention that it has played host to numerous gatherings for the rich and powerful including Marilyn Monroe, Frank Sinatra and many of our presidents.

For your Great Gatsby event don’t be shy about using lots of metallic’s like gold and silver. These colors provide the masculine backdrop that you need, then soften the look by adding feminine touches. I love using white flowers, Feathers, linens and accessories. A great Gatsby wedding requires a lot of bling and I love draping crystals and pearls over the flowers and tables. Go over-the-top with large crystal centerpieces that hold beautiful white flowers and feathers.

For your reception I can’t think of anything better than creating a speakeasy. Try crating a password for your guests to order your signature drink. Serve classic drinks like Mojito’s, Manhattan’s, and Old fashions. And don’t forget the champagne a Gatsby party wouldn’t be complete without.  At the end of the night send your guests off with a bang! Hand out sparklers to your guests and light fireworks, then drive off in an authentic Rolls Royce worthy of Jay Gatsby himself.

At Simply Elegant Event and Wedding design we are all about pushing your wedding over-the-top and we can bring to like the Great Gatsby wedding of your dreams!
